And the Sea turned General, 2018

Political map of Brazil

gluing interference

100x100

“When I was a child, I spent summer vacations with my family on the coast of Espirito Santo.

I lived in the Zona da Mata in Minas Gerais and our sea was there"

The artist makes a collage on the political map of Brazil, where she displaces the state of Espirito Santo and places it as an island in the Atlantic Ocean. The state of Minas Gerais “also” belongs to the edge of the ocean, with its city located in the forested area of Minas Gerais very close to the sea. The double meaning title “Gerais” belonging to Minas Gerais and at the same time “for all”. An affective irony to childhood memories.

What matters in this report is the displacement, occupation and belonging of the place, even if temporary.
